Hayes ALS as President, July 10, 1877. Writing just a few months after becoming president in March, Hayes thanks Charles Lauman in Georgetown for a letter. Your sympathy and approval give me great gratification. The single page letter is written on the first page of a folded page 8vo sheet of presidential stationery. There is some overall toning. This is a nice example and worth a little more research if the sympathy was for something recent that happened to Hayes other than moving into the Executive Mansion and top job.
