On the blank back are some handwritten notes in Hebrew “for the students” – unclear by whom it was written. 1942 was born in Galizia and educated in Germany; he was a Talmudist, who served on the faculty of the HUC, and is best known for his scholarly edition (and translation into English) of the Midrashic’Mekhlita of Rabbi Ishmael'; he also gave halachic guidance to the Reform community through a series of Responsa written for it. He contributed many articles to the Jewish Encyclopedia and to the Hebrew’Otzar Yisrael’ encyclopedia.
