French physician who proposed on 10 October 1789 the use of a device to carry out death penalties in France. Autograph letter with signature (in third person), one page – addressed to the reverse of an adjoining sheet (with red wax seal), 4 x 6 inch, (Paris), 3.10.1790, in French, to the physician N. Simon, whom he informs of his appointment as secretary of the Health Committee of the National Assembly, written by Joseph-Ignace Guillotin in black ink – with signature in third person “Guillotin”, attractively mounted (removable) for fine display with a picture, shows a guillotine in use during the French Revolution (altogether 9,5 x 12,75 inch), with intersecting letter folds, browning, a few small stains, and a small area of paper loss to the upper left corner of the adoining address sheet – in fine condition. Translated: “Guillotin has the honor to welcome Mr Simon, he informs him that he was appointed secretary assistant of the Committee of Salubrity, he will be able to settle tomorrow”.
