MELLON – Handwritten Letter to his father ANDREW MELLON – Oct 1886? LISTING UPDATE: The content of the handwritten letter is found on page 175-176 of the book. So this is the original letter that was latter published in the book. Inside a RARE book entitled James R. Mellon Letters is a HANDWRITTEN letter from James Mellon to his father Andrew Mellon dated October 1864 date is missing on letter and not clear on the postal cancellation. The letter was mailed from Pittsburgh, PA to the Mellon residence in Philadelphia, PA. The letter was written on stock lined paper and is signed “James Mellon”. The content of the letter provides an update from two brothers (James and Thomas Mellon) to their father related to business matters. The first business matter is the brothers’ recommendation to their father that they should sell 1,800 acres of property in West Virginia. The Mellon brothers were advising their father that they should make the investment, as Mr. Seely was giving the Mellons the first right of refusal. This letter is folded and was addressed to Andrew Mellon in Philadelphia. The postal cover has an oxidized 3c Washington stamp (I believe it is a Scott 65 stamp). This lot includes the letter and the book, as I want to keep them together. The book was published in 1928 in Pittsburgh. The book is in great condition – the pages are crisp and clean, the binding is excellent. This item is in the category “Collectibles\Autographs\Historical”.
