It is written in black ink script from Chelsea Saturday Eve. The front part of the torn page is Br. Sewell, Dear Sir, I have this day attended the funeral of an excellent woman, member of my church, who died of consumption. A worthy man, – an interesting…. The back of the page is mind. If you can preach it you would oblige me very much. Don’t say No (underlined). Yours very truly Horatio Alger. Yes, the letter and signature are authentic. He tells me this would have been written before 1866 when Alger left Chelsea, Massachusetts, left his church and moved to New York City. This letter fragment has clear, readable writing. However it is damaged with a cigarette burn, food spots, toning on the edges and wrinkles. Please view my photographs for more description. My friend who collects everything, is starting to part with a few of his treasures, aren’t you glad? This item is in the category “Collectibles\Autographs\Other Collectible Autographs”.
