King GEORGE V Handwritten letter signed 1885 Dartmouth Naval College Cambridge
A very rare autographed letter written and signed by the future…. The young George, later Duke of York, was probably still undergoing naval training at the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, Devon. His elder brother, Albert Victor, also known as “Eddy”, had been studying at Trinity College, Cambridge under the supervision of the boys’ long time tutor, the Reverend John Neale Dalton. Here George is confirming a visit to Cambridge shortly with his father, the Prince of Wales, to visit his brother and Dalton. The letter comes from a collection I acquired some years ago of Royal correspondence all sent to. Dalton and no doubt stored by his family (including letters from Prince Albert and Queen Victoria). I have added a photograph of other letters sent to Dalton in order to act as provenence of the authenticity of the Prince’s letter. If any purchaser wishes to acquire other letters – all by Royal secretaries – these can be made available.
