A fine handwritten letter, signed. Three pages, 8vo, South Street, Park Lane, 12. May 1892, to Rev. Nightingale has penned her letter in ink and commences. I trust that your kindness will forgive one overladen with work & an invalid for asking you to undertake an arrangement for one, I believe of your congregation, which it is impossible for me to undertake myself. And continues to explain. It is for Mrs. Who was my cook for a time many years ago. She wrote to me wishing for 3 ladies to allow her 1/ a week each. I answered that I would put 2/ a week for one year for her into the hands of some lady, who I supposed would be the District Lady Visitor the person who usually undertakes these arrangements provided she, Mrs. Thomason, could find two other ladies who would allow 1/ a week, which was her own request and plan. Nightingale adds that she has received a reply from Thomason in which the former cook refers Nightingale to Rev. Jephson, and further writes. In concluding Nightingale declares. And may I respect, as my excuse for troubling you, that it is impossible, with justice to my permanent work & people, for me, however willing, to give more time or means to this particular case, of which I have many. Accompanied by the original envelope hand addressed by Nightingale to Rev. Jephson at the Vicarage on Waterloo Road, London, and signed and dated. By her to the lower left corner.
