Lee: The inclosed has just been recd. It leaves me nothing to add but a hope that an early attention to its object will not be inconvenient and a tender of my cordial respects and salutations. A young second lieutenant and engineer in the U. Lee was stationed at Fort Wool and tasked with stabilizing the island to hold the weight of the fort. He was only there for a few months before he requested a transfer to Washington, DC, which was approved in 1834 through the help of his family and political connections. Robert corresponded regularly with his brother Charles during this time, likely to receive an endorsement from Madison to help grant his transfer. MADISON RESPONDS TO A TRANSFER REQUEST FROM LEES BROTHER, ROBERT E. The letter is one page, measures by inches, created in Montpelier on March 10, 1834, and in very good condition with creasing, toning, and tape residue along the left and right borders. A scarce format from the 4th U. President and First Lady having been written from their tobacco estate at Montpelier. SIGNED by artist JOHN SINGER SARGENT 1898 Hand Written Personal Letter ORIGINAL

Vintage letter was written in ink on Singer’s letterhead for his art studio at 33 Tite Street, Chelsea S. The postmark on the envelope is dated 1898. It is addressed to a friend, and much of the handwriting is hard for me to discern. Letter measures 8 x 7 and is still in very good condition with light wear. The previous owner wrote a few related historical notes about Singer in pencil on the back, but this could be erased. Comes with original mailing envelope. Please see photos up close for greater detail. This came directly from the estate of the Sigel family. It does not include a C. But it has been closely examined, and bears all signs of authenticity. Many of these items were signed directly to some of the family members. 1895 Vintage Signed UK King George V Autographed Vtg Handwritten Letter JSA

March 4, 1885 handwritten two-page letter written and signed by future King of the United Kingdom, George V, authenticated by both James Spence Authentication and RR Auctions. JSA certification #. Letter written while George V was serving in the Royal Navy, on letterhead from the Royal Navy College Greenwich, and references an upcoming trip to Cambridge. George V would go on to serve as King of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions, and Emperor of India, from 1910 until his death in 1936. The son of Edward VII, who reigned from 1901 until his death in 1910, and grandson of Victoria, who reigned from 1837 to 1901, and was Queen at the time this letter was written. George V reigned over the First World War, the rise of fascism, communism, Irish Republicanism, Indian independence, the collapses of the empires of his cousins, Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, and Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany, the first Labor government in the United Kingdom, and the Statute of Westminster, recognizing the Dominions as separate independent entities within the Commonwealth. Changed the name of his House, House Saxon-Coburg and Gotha, to House Windsor, due to anti-German sentiment during World War I. Succeeded by his eldest son, Edward VIII, who would become the first King to abdicate the Crown.
