Discussing prospective replacements for faculty members and immediate scheduling for another, in an autograph letter, signed D. Swain, from Chapel Hill, 30 December 1859, mentioning faculty members William J. Martin (chemistry), Andrew D. Hepburn (Logic & Rhetoric), Charles F. Deems (History), Charles Phillips (Math), and James Phillips referring to him only as the old Dr. Chapel Hill, (NC): 1859. One page, approximately 150 words, in part: Dr. McGuffey writes me that Mr. Phillips will preach at High Point for New Years Day and the following Sabbath at Goldsboro… I hope to be in Raleigh Monday evening. In December 1859, Hepburn had just been elected to the faculty, largely on the recommendation of William H. McGuffey of the University of Virginia, his preceptor. Traces of mounting in an album on verso, else very good. This item is in the category “Collectibles\Autographs\Historical”. The seller is “crottsy” and is located in this country: US.
