STAMPS: The late Dr. Willie Moseley accumulated a vast and diverse autograph & stamp collection. It contained many of the popular stamps & autographs that collectors seek. The wide range of new, used, fancy cancels, vintage, pages, PBs, singles, FDCs, post cards- posted and unposted, bags of cut envelope and used stamps, even some rare and error stamps. I will list some in their original waxed envelopes that he had them stored in along with my little white paper numbering system that Ive laid on top of his envelope. My numbers make sure you are getting the correct stamp and that I have pictured the correct stamp to the listing. Moseley died several years ago and that was evidently what he paid for it and not necessarily its current value. Questions & or helpful information is always welcome. This home was built on the site of the first residence in Edgefield, built by Peter Youngblood and dating from approximately 1762. The property was later the home of Erasmus J. It is thought that Brooks built the present house as early as 1843. Norris, a prominent lawyer and businessman. In 1875 his daughter, Mamie Norris, was born here. She later married James Hammond Tillman who became Lieutenant Governor of South Carolina. After her husbands and her parents deaths, Mrs. Tillman continued to reside here. Tillman continued to live here and in 1959 she prevailed upon the Company to give the property to the Edgefield County Historical Society. Today the house is the headquarters of the Society and is open by appointment as a house museum. This is a copied direct quote from something I found on the net about the history of Edgefield Co. Letter is signed by Samuel Brooks and I have listed the above quote to let buyers get a sense of who Samuel Brooks was; he bought the mansion in 1843, this letter was written in 1847. The Brook’s family has a long and interesting history in the “Old South” archives. The letter is addressed back to Connecticut his home before coming to Edgefield. There is just too much to research about this man and his family but you will enjoy digging out the family secretes I’m sure. Mailing envelope to Dr. Moseley upon purchasing it is part of this listing. I have obscured the name of the company. Thank you for looking and please see all of my stamps and autographs listed from the estate of this great collector. The item “1847 Edgefield Ct.
